If the one you are replacing is defective then a new one will help your fuel mileage. If on the other hand if it is working as it should then a new one will not help.
the 02 sensor has nothing to do with gas mileage. it sipley is a sensor that reads the oxygen level in your exhaust for emissions.
If it is malfunctioning it can affect fuel mileage.
Yes it will.
causes very poor gas mileage
A faulty oxygen sensor can make a car smell like gas. Oxygen and gasoline mixing wrong can cause excessive pollution. Replacing the oxygen sensor can correct this issue, and improve the gas mileage in the car.
no set time or mileage part failure only
no but it affects how well your car runs and gas mileage
Check ingine light and your gas mileage get worse.
Try replacing your fuel filter or it could be either your EGR valve or fuel pressure regulator
Absolutely. Not just on Subaru but every car built that has an oxygen sensor. And they all do.
The O2 sensor is not a regular maintenance item that needs replacing at a set time or mileage. Replacing a fully functional O2 sensor will not improve performance or mileage. The ECU will set a fault code and alert you to a faulty O2 sensor. They should easily last 100,000 miles.
Changing an oxygen sensor is awkward, not necessarily difficult. The answer really depends on your skill level so without knowing that my answer is meaningless. Auto parts stores lend a socket set for changing oxygen sensors and they do help some. Good luck! --Ken
