Some companies will send you to a CPR class on or off site during your normal working hours. Others may have you attend a weekend class and pay you overtime to attend. In this regard they are paying you because they are paying your wage to attend the class.

Most company's will send employees to training during working hours or bring instructors on site and train during working hours. Others may train before or after the shift ends. Either way, the employee does get paid for the hours spent in class and is not charges for the materials (books, masks, gloves).
If the company doesn't ask you to take CPR, you will probably not get paid to take the class nor get the materials paid for.

If it was a requirement to obtain the job, it is not the responsibility of the company to pay. If it a requirement added later, then they should pay for the class (it's the right thing for the company to do).
