Most people who have an eating disorder also have depression because of the complete lack of control they feel and the feeling that they will never be good enough. Their focus becomes centered around food and weight and other activities are no longer as fun. They see themselves as ugly, worthless, and a burden.

Depression can have one of two effects on your appetite. Some people have no appetite at all, and lose weight when depressed. Other people eat more than normal, and gain weight. If you are feeling sad and worthless, and have noticed any sizable change in your weight and sleeping habits, you should let your doctor give you a good check-up to be sure there's nothing going on.

Depression may cause overeating because it is possible for a human to find escape and pleasure in consuming food. This takes his or her mind off of the matter at hand and onto a different wave: a numb feeling.

How are eating disorders different from neurological disorders?

Neurological disorders are to do with the human brain; also known and "brain" disorders. They can be seizures, mental retardation, depression, bipolar, and more. Most of humans with this disorder cannot get it out of their system; it can be permanent. Other than medicine, brain surgery is the main option to go with to possibly remove it. Therapy is another option to try if you have depression or anger issues. There are many different drugs to cover each disorder; anti seizure, anti depression, etc. Anti depression is used for depression of course and can be used for anger issues. An eating disorder is most likely to get removed by different methods; three ways are to not buy as much food as you normally do, try to stay within a certain amount of money, or getting your stomach stapled. Stomach stapling can help because certain foods you eat will make you vomit it up, so you most likely would not eat it anymore or as much as you normally do.

Why does anorexia always affect women'?

Anorexia does not always affect women. About 10% of anorexics are male. Anorexia - and most other eating disorders - are more common in women for a few reasons. Women naturally are more social, and thus focus on social pressures more then men. When social pressures demand thin-ness, women are more likely to develop eating disorders. A woman also experiences more changes in her body (pregnancy, for example) that can fuel body dislike and eating disorders. Women also tend to be more critical of each other than men are to each other. This harshness or bullying can lead to low self esteem and eating disorders, too.
