Insects do not have bones of any kind. Instead their entire body is enclosed in and supported by a hard shell called an exoskeleton made of protein, so it decomposes more rapidly after death than than bones do which are largely inorganic limestone.

Because an exoskeleton is hard and encloses the animal, in order for an animal with one to grow it must molt (i.e. shed) the exoskeleton, crawl out of it, and form a new larger one periodically. Internal bones allow growth without any of these problems and the same bones can grow with the animal instead of having to be discarded and replaced repeatedly.
