its harmful at all times....drinking rusty water means your are drinking bits of oxidized metal...which can have mold or other toxins on it It's very easy and fairly cheap to fit a sediment filter under the sink inline to the faucet you drink from. Any competent handyman can do this in about one hour and 50-60 in materials. I would urge you to do this.
