Yes, electricity generation has a huge effect on the environment.

Most electricity is generated by power plants using non-renewable fossil fuels like coal, oil and natural gas. All these fuels release carbon dioxide, a dangerous greenhouse gas, into the atmosphere. Most scientists agree that this is causing global warming.

A small part of electricity generation comes from nuclear power plants. There are great difficulties in storing waste from nuclear power plants, and there is danger for spillage and leakage.

Renewable energy sources are far better for the environment:

* Solar Power * Hydro-electric power * Wind Power * Tidal Power * Ocean Wave Power * Geothermal Power * Ocean Thermal Power

There is no real direct effect on the environment. There are effects that are created by the generation of this power though and the transmission.

Coal fired plants make terrible volumes of waste, even more when carbon scrubbers are installed. Wind systems kill wild birds and bats by the millions. The creation of solar panels requires the venting of very bad gases into our environment.

The cleanest generation is nuclear, but that even has some waste issues (not part of this question though as to why and how to dispose)

Transmission lines kill wildlife too. Not at the same volume as wind systems, but they do hurt the environment.

The idea of stray eddy currents causing any real issues though, if that is your question, is pretty much from people that do not understand the technology or people who enjoy weird theory. Stray voltage even from directly under power lines has been found to be no issue many times over.

Most electricity is produced by burning fossil fuels like coal, oil and natural gas. This produces carbon dioxide and other emissions that add to the greenhouse gas already in the atmosphere, contributing to global warming.

A small amount of electricity is generated from hydro schemes (rivers, dams, ocean waves and tides), a smaller amount from wind power, solar power and geothermal power plants. All these produce practically no carbon dioxide or other harmful emissions and so are good for the environment.
