Does evening primrose oil really work in the induction of labor?

I heard it works! Even it was recommended by my collegues ob-gyn. Primrose oil will not start labor, sadly. However, it does ripen the cervix for labor. It was helpful with my particular case because my body did not want to go into labor on its own. I was 1/2 dilated for four weeks. The doctor said the lack of change meant that my cervix was not favorable for induction and therefore the chance of having a C-section increased greatly with being induced. The primrose oil, I was told will help to ripen the cervix (which helps your effacement and dilation). Hope this helps you! I was advised to take 1000mg per day (after 38 weeks pregnancy) and insert one capsule vaginally at bedtime.
