The fifth pillar of Islam is hajj (or pilgrimage) to Mecca (or Makkah) in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It is obligatory to every adult Muslim, regardless the Gender, to go for hajj at least once in life if he/she can afford it physically, financially, and safely.

∙ 8y agoYes, Hajj is binding upon every Muslim, however there are exceptions as is mentioned in an extract from Surah 3, Verse 97 of the Qur'an:
"And Hajj (pilgrimage to Makkah) to the House (Ka'bah) is a duty that mankind owes to Allah, those who can afford the expenses (for one's conveyance, provision and residence)...)"
In short, those who are not financially, physically, or in any other reasonable way not able to make it, are not bound by the fact that they must perform Hajj.

∙ 8y agoIt is a pillar of the Islam faith, that every Muslim that is able to make the pilgrimage to Mecca, do so at some point in their life. The "able to" is the part that is left up to individual's circumstances. Someone who is financially, physically, or in some other way, unable to make the journey is not expected to miraculously get there. Any judgment on the matter would be officially considered in God's hands.
