In English countries, fag is slang for a cigarette.

Dictionary.com also states that when used as a noun, fag also means: a blemish or defect in woven fabric; a drudge. As a verb, it means to tire by labor, or to require to do menial chores.

In America, it is also a derogatory slang for homosexual.

  • A faggōt was commonly referred in the 16th and 17th century as a bundle of sticks.
  • Later, in the 1960's, a fag was a term used for a single cigarette,
  • Fag is also used, especially in the US, as an derogatory word for gay men.
  • A fag was used as the term for a servant in the Victorian era onwards in private and public school boarding establishments in England. The elder upper class students would have a younger child fag for them. It was one form of abuse and bullying which was expected in boarding schools, and teachers turned a blind eye to it. Thankfully it is no longer tolerated.
  • Faggοt is also a type of meat ball, especially in England.

What are 'fadsticks'?

Either I've heard the term used once before or I just came up with this meaning on my own, but "fadsticks" could mean cigarettes...hmmm something to ponder. I think the term the above answerer was looking for is the British slang for a cigarette, a fag. A fag is, generally speaking a lit stick. In Australia we used to have these lollys called Fads, which where about 8cm white sticks made of white musk stuff with a red tip, like a lit cigarette. We used to pretend to smoke them. You can still get them, but they taste funny and the red tip is gone.
