Generally, Dr's don't like to even consider it until the age of 18 because of the concern of the body continuing to develop. At that point, one of the main concerns is that the prescription for the eye(s) has stabilized(minimal changes year to year) and as a result, much less chance of the surgery not being effective after a few years
