There is a myth that the fig tree is cursed. It is untrue, in fact it is reason the fig is considered scientifically a bud and not a fruit. This is reason most figs bloom along with the leaves.
Yes, they do lose their leaves in the winter.

Another answer from our community:It can be assumed since they covered themselves in fig leaves, but it is never made certain. We can know for certain what fruit Adam & Eve ate.Gen.3:7 tells us what the fruit was that Adam & Eve ate after they eat the fruit they cover with fig leaves. Therefore if they cover w/ fig leaves that means they ate a fig. Fig leaves grow on a fig tree if a tree has fig leaves the tree will grow fig leaves. Adam & Eve ate a fig not an apple.
Mediterranean countries, such as Greece, Libya and Italy. Biggest fig producer in the world is Turkey (27 % of the world's total fig production). Then comes Egypt and Morocco and such. More than half of dried figs in the world are produced in Turkey.
we should write fig is a fruit
The fig "fruit" are actually flowers, at least for part of the time. For more information, see http://www.crfg.org/pubs/ff/fig.html.
Jesus tells a parable about the fig tree. He says that the fig trees leaves help to indicate when the fruit is ripe based on the seasons. He compares this to how we will know when His second coming is approaching.

Most fruit trees have thorns they must be planted from the fruit itself because the trees you purchase at a nursary are bred to not have thorns. the tree uses its thorns to protect its fruit from other animals. the only wild fruit tree that does not have thorns is the fig tree.
