There are good statistical reasons to expect that life does exist in other galaxies than our own, and other star systems than our own even within our own galaxy, but this is speculation only, since we have no direct observation of any such life. So far, life has been observed on Earth only.
Assuming that you are referring to the Milky Way, it is an example of a galaxy - and it happens to be the galaxy that we live in. Galaxies come in many shapes and sizes, but the Milky way is believed to a be a barred-spiral galaxy and has a supermassive black hole at it's core. It is also the only galaxy that is known to harbour life!!!
Extinct. This is because the center of the Milky Way galaxy, like the centers of most galaxies, appears to be occupied by a super-massive black hole. The radiation near such an object would be instantly fatal.
Proof of life in other galaxies! Sorry, I just had to do that since (if I am not actually answering an exterrestrial's question) it is your galaxy too. Anyway, I don't know why the Milky Way looks milky. I am guessing it has to do with the way the light shines on it. However, there is no scientific reason for the name Milky Way. It was made up by ancient people who were studying the night sky with very primitive tools. They could only describe what they saw, but, they did not know why it was the way it was.
In* Yes, there is life in the Milky Way. As the Milky Way harbours the Earth which is home to many species of life.
Almost every galaxy has a super massive black hole in its centre and this fact is widely accepted now days . Milky way galaxy also have a super massive black hole of its own, weighing more than 4 million times more than our sun's mass. Andromeda galaxy is our nearest neighbour having a super massive black hole in its centre weighing 114 million solar masses .
yes the milky way can support life, but it can't support life too long.
Simple answer no if the Milky Way did not exist there would be no human race. We are part of the Milky Way galaxy in the most fundamental ways. We live here. We evolved here. Every element that goes up to make the Earth and you except hydrogen and most of the helium comes from stars that lived and died billions of years ago within the Milky Way. We owe our entire existence to the Milky Way. It is absolutely probable that life has arisen in far off galaxies. They might even look remarkably like humans although that is very doubtful but still they will not be humans.
The Andromeda Galaxy or M31 as it is known in the cosmos is our nearest largest Galaxy and is greater even in size to the Giant Milky Way Galaxy. Both galaxies are very huge mass spiral galaxies and they are part of the local group of galaxies that number around 30 or more spanning more than 10 million light-years, These in turn are part of more massive super cluster of galaxies known as the Virgo Super-cluster of galaxies IE the local super-cluster groupThere are many other much smaller galaxies near the Milky Way and much nearer than Andromeda two giants appear to have their own groupsLike wise Andromeda has local galaxies too some of which are nearer to our Milky way than Andromeda itself. The gravity center of the local is group is believed to be in between the two giant galaxies Andromeda and The Milky WayAndromeda and the Milky Way are on collision course which is expected to happen very very soon.About 3 Billion years time so please do not gaze up to the Andromeda's expecting it to be any bigger or closer in our life times or for many more lifetimes, to come to that matter.Strangely if you look at the computer generated model of the predicted collision it is far from a collision as they are so big that collisions do actually not take place, more like a mingling of the stars. But to be more precise the merging of the 2 giants will take many more millions of years to perform when the time comes for it to begin
Earth is part of the Milky Way, so yes there is. As to whether there is any other life out there, we do not know.
So far, the only planet known for sure to have life - including plants - is planet Earth.
Answer You really have to be kidding, how do you expect to weigh that many stars from earth? Time for you to get a life and stop asking stupid questions.
We are currently, and always part of the "Milky Way" galaxy. The Milky Way has the only life forms known so far, humans. The "Life on Mars" theory is still being predicted and experimented by scientists. So far we are the only living organisms, apart from plants also, alive. The Milky Way galaxy, which had many events happened, which was MAJORLY part of the "Big Bang" theory. Milky Way is extremely close the the Sagittarius galaxy. approximately 500 light years).
