Anyway, I don't know why the Milky Way looks milky. I am guessing it has to do with the way the light shines on it. However, there is no scientific reason for the name Milky Way. It was made up by ancient people who were studying the night sky with very primitive tools. They could only describe what they saw, but, they did not know why it was the way it was.
