the bigger the parachute the slower it falls. but, that is dangerous because it carries more so they try not to make them to big because one gust of wind could blow you a mile to 2 miles off course.

How does a parachute's material affect the speed at which it falls?

it will start to change as the material gets thicker

How does an open parachute increase air resistance of a falling skydiver?

the parachute has a big space area so that when he falls through the air the air molecules get collected by the parachute therefore reducing speed of falling down PS. doesnt mean he doesnt fall at all

What is the slowest parachute made of?

Parachutes are not rated by their speed. A parachute works by increasing the air resistance of a suspended falling body or object. The greater the mass of the object the larger the area of the parachute must be to reduce the speed to an acceptable level.

Does air resistance help a parachute slow down?

Of course it does. If there was no air resistance then the parachute would accelerate at the speed of gravity which is 9.8m/s/s. If a human were using a parachute and there was no air resistance then they would die. "Air resists the motion of objects traveling through it because its molecules collide with the molecules of the object. This resistance to the motion is beneficial because the force acts to slow down a parachute jumper's speed of fall. The jumper falls with increasing speed until the parachute is opened. The greater air resistance acting on the surface of the parachute will bring the jumper to a terminal velocity and will enable the parachutist to safely reach the ground".http://amyallen.org/mhs/applied_physics/physics_of_flight/rocket/parachutes_payloads.pdf

How does size affect the speed of a falling parachute?

The larger the size of the parachute the more air resistance is caused because its larger surface traps more air. Becuase there is more air resistance the larger the parachute the slower it travels to the ground. The smaller the parachute the faster it falls to the ground for the opposite reason.

Does the body falling to the earth travel at the same speed from the very beginning of its travel?

No. Its speed keeps increasing as it falls.

How is increasing speed acceleration?

By definition acceleration is the change in velocity (speed).

How does increasing the speed of an object change its momentums?

Increasing the speed of an object will increase its momentum as well (momentum=mass*velocity).

How will the speed and the slip of the motor change with increasing load in star wye and delta connection?

the speed decrease if increasing load..in star connection the speed lower

What three things can acceleration mean?

Increasing speed, decreasing speed, and change of direction

Explain why a man using a parachute falls through air slowly while a stone falls through air very fast?

When an object falls through air, it experiences air resistance. This air resistance is a force that opposes the object's motion. The amount of air resistance an object experiences depends on the object's shape, size, and speed. A man using a parachute falls slowly because the parachute creates a large amount of air resistance. A stone falls very fast because it has a small amount of air resistance.

Does it mean a skydiver is slowing down if the acceleration of the skydiver decreases as falling progresses?

No.Acceleration is a measure of the rate of change of velocity (speed & direction). If acceleration is decreasing (but still above zero) then this means that the rate at which the speed is increasing in this direction is decreasing. As long as the downward acceleration is greater than zero then the skydiver's speed is still increasing.Once terminal velocity is reached then downward acceleration will equal zero (speed is constant). If the downward acceleration falls below zero (as will happen once his parachute is deployed for instance) then this means he is slowing down.
