Inertia is the property of matter to stay in its existing state of rest or uniform motion in a straight line, unless that state is altered by some force. Even on the moon, inertia is at work.

For example, if you throw a ball on the moon, it would continue moving until the moon's gravity and the friction on the moon's surface brought it to rest. If the ball is on the ground, it will stay in place until a force acts upon it.
