It wont hurt while they are removing them as you will probably be knocked out with drugs. it will however hurt to talk and even swallow afterwards
no it does not...but you can't speak for a few days...and you'll only be able to have soup, water and ice cream for a week...it is worth it...I haven't had a sore throat in 20 years
I'm 14 and i had my tonsils out YESTERDAY. i went in at 8am, i had to answer a few questions but then at 10am, they took me down to the operating room. they put "magic" cream on my hand to stop you from feeling the injection. i felt the injection, but it didn't hurt, which i was amazed about. before i knew it, i was being told to wake up. as soon as i woke up, i sat up and was eating and drinking! the nurses were amazed at how quickly i recoverd. i even ate jam Sandwiches. by 5pm, i was back home, i ate pasta. it didn't hurt, it feels quite nice to eat and swallow. i wasnt in much pain yesterday, and I'm still not today. i woke up alot in my sleep lastnight, but i took a drink of water to bed, and whenever i woke up, i had a few sips of that and then just drifted back to sleep. I've lost my apertite, but i still eat.. just to keep the muscules in my throat working. i don't find it hard to eat, as long as you eat them in small sections. cold milk on your throat really helps, i found that it sooths your throat. so far, so good. don't let any bad comments put you off, because I'm only 14, and I'm such a wimp.i'd cry over a paper cut, but honestly, this isn't pain! thankyou, Emma x
(thank you so much Emma i am happy there are people out there for who it doesnt hurt too much, i hope that's me! i have read so many bad stories about tonsillectomies and i was being very very dissuaded. thank youuu)
I had my tonsils taken out 2 yrs ago. you are put to sleep for the operation but when you wake up it will hurt like hell for 2 weeks but yes you do get lots of ice cream and you wont get hardly any more sore throats
No, having your tonsils removed does not hurt. You are under anesthesia, and pretty much out of it for a day. However, afterwards your throat may be sore, but no, the process does not hurt in any way.
Don't talk, scream at your siblings, cuz you might rip the stitches.

Yes, like any surgery having your tonsils removed can be quite painful. The amount of pain depends on your own pain threshold i.e. how much pain you can tolerate. You are given medication to reduce the pain as well.
It may feel a little uncomfortable for the first couple of days, but nothing to be concerned about. Eat ice cream, it helps.

I am 13 and i had my tonsils out last June. It hurt A LOT after the surgery. I went to the hospital and they gave me some relaxation meds and anestitia through an IV, then i started giggling alot and then i didnt remember a thing after hearing my mom say " bye bye". I woke up and i was in such immense pain i was crying..... :( i was still loopy from the meds, so i was reallly obnoxious and i demanded water but the nurse was all like no you cant cuz there is still an open wound so after a half an hour i got to have some ice chips. For about two weeks it hurt really bad and i didnt talk.all i had to eat was soup, water, jello, juice, sherbet, and the third week ice cream and apple suace. the first few days ur not allowed to have anythiing hot or cold so i just had water...for those of you getting ur tonsils out -its gonna be ok and it hurts more if ur an adult.i know this from my science texkbook, and my sister whos 22 got hers out recently and hers hurt for 4 weeks. good luck! :)
When you get them out you don't feel anything but during the recovery it hurts and is pretty soar. I had my tonsils out 10 days ago and now I am almost back to normal. The part that is the worst is it hurts to swollow I couldn't eat until now. I first could only suck on Popsicles then ice cream then jell o and applesauce and pudding
You'll have pain for a week to ten days after.

Tonsillitis occurs when the tonsils are overwhelmed by bacteria. If it keeps occurring, the patient probably has chronic tonsillitis and needs their tonsils removed.
