Tails that are too long get stepped on and attract a lot of dirt and debris. Tails that are too short are not good flyswatters; they aren't much help in keeping the nasty flies and bugs off your horsey friends!
Some breeds have longer and thicker tails than others, and some people who show in different events have their own idea of what their horses' tail length should be.
A good rule of thumb is to keep your horse's tail trimmed to a length that is midway between the point of his hock and the ground. Make sure you keep your horse's tail clean, too!
It all depends on what disapline you ride. Like I rode American Saddlebreds, and they are show horses so their tails needed to be long. If it wasnt there own tail many people would buy tail extensions. But after the show was done we would braid their tails with a bunch of conditioner, put it in a sock cut into two parts at the top then wrapped in vet wrap that way it keeps their tails clean and growing and nice for the next show. But most horses dont need long tails like those show horses do.
no, generally a long straight tail
A long tail helps horses keep flies away from their bodies.
The tail stick's out about a foot from the horses rump.
Cowboys loved a colorful phrase! A broom-tail was a description for a horse. This was usually not a compliment, as a horse with a long, shaggy broom-tail meant one that was wild and unruly.
None of them.
Yes it's true, but there is an exception for the Arabic horses. They don't die when you cut their tail.
It all depends on the breed and individual horse. We have horses with tails that reach the ground, we have other horses of the same breed with short little tails. It all depends.

I have never heard of this in relation to a horse. I do know the 'bang tail' was a derogatory slang name for Victorian era prostitutes in Europe. To bang a horses' tail means you trim the tail so it is straight at the bottom. You just trim the long ends away'
quite long because know one is trimming it back because it is wild
