Mascara- They say you should change or re-buy your mascara every month. Personally I've had mine for several months and it's still just fine and works the same.
Eyeliner- I don't think eyeliner really ever "expires", because I've had the same pencil for a year now although gel liners are probably every 4 months.
Eyeshadow- Same as eyeliner, but there is a certain point after a little more than two years where I feel like they don't have as much pigmentation.
Honey, everything expires eventually, even your favorite bottle of wine and that tub of ice cream hidden in the back of the freezer. Sheer cover makeup is no exception. Check the packaging for the little symbol of an open jar with a number inside - that's how many months the product is good for after opening. Time to clean out that makeup bag, darling!
Mineral makeup is inorganic and contains no moisture, therefore bacteria cannot form and thrive, which is why no preservatives are needed to stabilize high-quality mineral products. Furthermore, these products will not spoil because they contain no fillers or synthetic dyes. So in theory, mineral makeup will last forever. However, it is possible for you to transmit organic material to the makeup if you allow a brush to contact the makeup after the brush has been on your face, thus causing it to expire and spoil.
When a makeup has gone off (old) for example mascara : if it has gone beond it's expire date then it stars' to attract bacteria's. Then it is more than easy to contract an eye infection ( so please take my edvice and throw away gone off mascara ) x

Well, if you have to get rid of it because of safety reasons, you should. It is not wise to save up makeup for a long time because it can often "expire" as in flaking, drying out, or becoming liquidy. You can always read labels on your old makeup so you can purchase the same type in the future. Next time, don't save it up so long!
