Typically, people associate being moral with being "good". However, moral persons may sometimes step outside of society's definitions of "right and wrong" to show a way that has higher morals. A well known example is Martin Luther King who spoke out against laws of segregation. Nelson Mandela is a much beloved leader who is considered a highly moral man, yet, he was often condemned in his own society and within that society's laws. Moral people might also speak against societal customs (customs are not laws) that hurt or infringe on the rights of persons-- as an example, many very moral persons in the Middle East are fighting for women to have equal rights within society. Even a person who steps up to do something in the face of criticism, such as working for the rights of persons affected by HIV, may be highly moral yet be considered as doing something "bad" if their actions go against society's expectations.
As a side note, almost all reforms in society begin with someone who is willing to stand up to immoral ideas, poor treatment, injustices, etc., and to do so despite any laws or society's expectations.
