Does passing through a tunnel with bright light at the end happen to those who believe in god and to those who don't that are near death?

It is often said by those who have had such an experience that this is so. But the experience does not come until AFTER death and not before. It is only the spirit that goes through this experience while the body remains on earth.

When we live upon this earth we live in a world of uncertainty, darkness if you like to call it. We ask is there a better place for us when we die. If we think of the dark tunnel as traveling through that uncertainty, to a light which when reached will dispel all of that uncertainty, and upon reaching that light all will be as we hoped it would be. Darkness will fall from our minds and our eyes and all light and truth will be revealed to us. It is the writers belief that this will happen to the believers and the non believers for God is no respecter of persons.

Allthough secular scientists think this is caused by a lack of oxegen to the brain this doesn't answer why people see and hear things outside of their own experience.

I think that what is happening is that close to death a persons spirit seperates from their body and is drawn toward GOD. This can be a wonderfull experience or a terrifing one, based on your relationship with GOD. They are returned to their body when it is resusitated because it is tuned to their spirit and pulls them back. We do not know if the tunnel and the light are real or imagined. We have no verifiable reports of someone who has gone through the tunnel and is now on the other side. These are mostly matters of faith or of conjecture. One thing I would say is that believing or not believing in God is not considered by most Christians to change the fact that you will meet God in judgment.

It would be very simple to say, "If you see a light it is because you believe in God, and if you don't believe in God you will not see a light." There is no way to tell whether that is true, though. It is my tendency to believe that any sort of light is a perception of something greater, perhaps God, and that all people will ultimately meet God face to face. If you don't see "a light" or something else that indicates you are on your way to meet God, do not fear, because you will meet God regardless of whether or not you believe, and regardless of whether or not you see a light.

I also want to say that in life some things are uncertain or non-sensical. A person who lives a healthy life can get cancer, a friend to whom you have given everything may reject you, a person with an IQ of 25 may be a musical genius or idiot savant. These things in life contradict what we believe to be otherwise true.

How much more, then, should death not make sense? The things we know about death are that life processes like breathing and heartbeat cease, and that afterwards, decay sets in. We do not know how the dead can be raised to life, or even what part of us could actually be brought back to life or live on in some way after death.

As a person of faith, I must suggest that we not place our confidence in the seeing or not seeing of a bright light (which we cannot confirm exists or means anything). What happens in death and afterwards is a matter of faith because it is so mysterious. There is no fear or anxiety in faith, hope, and love. Live in the present and look forward to a glorious future. Let the dead bury their own dead and be anxious over nothing.
