Stain guard...we just bought furniture that has Scotch Gard already on it :) Actually, it is both a water repellent, AND a stain inhibitor. For years we have used ScotchGard on winter clothing, and hunting clothing, including boots, as a water repellent. It works great.j3h.
Cayenne pepper mixed with water and used as a repellent for dogs should not stain, unless the mixture is not heavily diluted and applied to white or light fabrics.
Scotchgard is a spray-on fabric protector that was made by Patsy Sherman. It is a stain repellent and a durable water repellent applied to fabrics.
No it isn't water repellent.
I've used it on three pairs of my Uggs (I have the Elijo, Upside and LaJolla in black, dark brown and light brown) and they are not damaged by the Penguin spray. The color does not change either. It only looks darker when first sprayed, but evens out and returns to original color when dry. It definitely works as I have trudged through a lot of snow/rain in them.
i believe that they are not water repellent, but they can tolerate colder temperatures with the help of their mother.
By testing it with denatured alcohol. If the paint comes off on a rag soaked with the alcohol, then it is water based, If not, oil.

Water can be used as a repellent for most animals. It will not work on bugs. Havahart makes a product that works off of your garden hose. When it senses movement, it releases a stream of water that will drive away all animals. Water is an effective repellent.
