Eleanor Roosevelt's maiden name was Anna Eleanor Roosevelt. She was a distant cousin of FDR, and one of the ways he wooed her was by telling her she wouldn't even have to change her name. She was the daughter of Elliot Roosevelt, Theodore Roosevelt's younger brother.

Eleanor later on married Franklin and they had 6 children. She helped the women of the U.S. get their voting rights. She was not only the first lady but, she was a leader too. She held her own press conferences, had a radio broadcasting, and had her own newspaper column. Eleanor also helped people in The Great Depression by answering young children's letters and starting a foundation called "The National Youth Administration." The NYA gave grants to high schools and college students in exchange for work.
