Is it possible for a polar covalent compound to have a lower melting point than a non-polar covalent compound?

It is not possible for the polar covalent compound to have a lower melting point than the non-polar covalent compound because they have ionic bonds.

Do non polar molecules have high melting points?

No, It is infact polar molecules that have higher melting points than non-polar molecules. Polar molecules have stronger intermolecular bonds called dipole-dipole forces. These forces are an attraction between the slightly positive end of one molecule with the slightly nehative end of another.

Do non polar covalent compounds have high or low melting points?

No they have high melting and boiling points. Don't get confused with simple molecular structures such as water and carbon dioxide which have simple covalent structures. When you heat them you are overcoming the forces BETWEEN THE MOLECULES (intermolecular/van der waals forces of attraction), NOT the actual covalent bonds themselves, like the bond betwen the C and either O in carbon dioxide.

When alcohols increase in size do they become more polar or non polar?

none polar More non polar bonds (c-c and c-h) compared to the polar bonds (C-O and O-H)

The sub polar low polar front is?

Sub polar low pressure zone happens due to circular shape of earth. The dense , tightly packed air of polar high pressure zone drags southward in Northern Hemisphere at the surface. As they move, they find themselves in a region which is constantly increasing in surface area. Hence they become lighter and starts to spread. This results in a lighter air mass near 50 to 70 degrees N or S forming the low pressure zone. Also as the sun's rays become less oblique in this region, there is more heat generated at the surface making the wind lighter and consequently rise up. Shirin

Is melting ice more or less dense than polar water?

Except at EXTREME pressures (like over 200 MPa), ice is less dense than liquid water. In the case of polar water this is even more the case since polar water has a fair amount of salt dissolved into it, raising it's density, while the ice is nearly pure water.

Will polar bears become more endangered over time?

if the ice keeps melting they will have no land so they might drown in the water and might become more endangered overtime.

Why is melting sea ice such a threat to the polar bears?

Melting sea ice is a threat to the polar bears because without the sea ice the polar bears predators will see them and swim away.

Which is more dense polar air or equatorial air?

Polar air is denser because it is colder.
