Gangster Rap Music does not directly cause violence but it is one of the biggest contributors to it's cause. Gangster Rap Music does influence a lifestyle of crime and anger. I grew up in Miami and I have met and seen kids/teens who came from a middle income family and grew up in a suburban area act like "gangsters" and commit senseless acts of violence just because it is part of the scene or the lifestyle. I grew up with my sister, once a very nice girl, turn into a thug speaking, angry girl who has found a new set of friends that believe having guns and beating up people is normal and cool.

Gangster Rap music creates a lifestyle and values around hate, racism, violence, homophobia, and death. We can also see the same traits in other genres of music but never has one genre made an army of angry teens who would kill for senseless reasons such as you looked at me wrong or your wearing a blue shirt or the infamous "your tried me"

Gangster Rap is the fuel of the lifestyle and it's values. I believe Gangster Rap Music sets the groundwork and the base of majority of senseless acts of violence. It only amplifies other issues and problems within each individual. A kid is most likely to resort to that kind of lifestyle due to his problems with family or his social surroundings.

Alot of rap music is, actually, violent. But alot of raqp music is not violent. In rap you have people like 50 cent, but you aso have people like Lupe Fiasco or Common.If you look for violent rap you will find it, but if you look for clean lyrics you'll find those as well

In today's rap culture, all you hear about is sex, drugs, violence, money. All these things are setting a bad example to the youth of this generation. Kids are being pressured by others who listen to this music into doing things that are made popular by the music.

But on the big scale, the media takes on more of a role of echoing back what is already being done than it does in promoting certain activities.

(DSM-IV) says yes, rap can even be linked to murder, although this is an extreme example.

Think of listening to Pop or Country Music, how do you feel? Go to the gym, what music are they playing in the weight room?

NO longer are rock stars the ones that young people look up to. Rather they have been replaced by young hip-hop stars and rappers who drive fast cars, wear expensive jewelry, date beautiful women, and fight amongst themselves to see who can come out on top. The lyrics in their songs are harsh. They speak of gang life, life in the ghetto, gunfights, drug use, and they often degrade women. Yet wherever one turns these songs and being played over and over again on the radio and the Music Videos are being show on TV. As harsh as they may be they are in fact the real lives of many of these stars.
