It can. It all depends on how much damage it has done at any given point in time. I am 63 and have had RA for a long time. aside from using the odd anti inflamatory to bring pain under control, when it flared up I have worked a s a carpenter in the building industry for a large part of my life. Had I caught on and kept the disease under control I would not have had to do a right elbow joint replacement which precludes me from swinging a hammer. However I have started to involved my self in less physically strenuous pursuits now so with a bit of luck it doesn't. A lot of it has to do with you attitude towards it.
