Running to lose stomach fat

  • Yes, cardio exercise can certainly help but sometimes it depends on your body and what type of foods you are eating. Cardio is the best way to burn fat. You cannot always target where you will lose fat but refined processed carbohydrates are a notorious trigger of insulin resistance that causes body fat to accumulate around the abdomen and stomach. So, in addition to running, limit refined processed carbohydrates. There is a list of them further down this page under Related Questions.
  • Combining cardio and weight training is a good way to lose fat and get toned in addition to limiting refined processed carbs. So, short answer, yes you can lose belly fat from running. Weightlifting and muscle training builds muscle, but, no matter how many sit-ups you do, you will not burn that layer of fat that sits on the muscle unless you eat less refined processed carbohydrates.
  • Running (cardio exercise), like all forms of cardio exercise, is excellent for fat loss in general. However, you will also need to take steps to avoid more body fat accumulating around your abdomen or stomach in the future by limiting refined processed carbohydrates. For more information about how to do this, and for three free cardio exercise plans to get you started, and for a list of refined processed carbohydrates, see the page links, further down this page, listed under Related Questions.
