Salt indeed does seem to "clog" arteries, as well as have other health-harming effects such as raising blood pressure, especially in individuals already predisposed to hypertension.

In laboratory tests with rats, there is noted thickening of cells walls with high sodium diets:

"...vascular morphology was significantly, resulting in significant thickening of the aortic media between the 10th and 20th week of age, in association with the development of extracellular matrix and excess collagen."

Another study notes:

"...the high-salt diet was associated with significant increases in the arterial thickness."

Many studies also show high salt intake makes arteries less elastic.

"a correlation between salt and pulse wave velocity (PWV), a measure of the stiffness of the arteries, was observed, suggesting an effect on vascular health independent of blood pressure."

Note, about half the population is considered more salt sensitive than others.
