Salt in toothpaste is used as an abrasive. It's not nearly as effective as fighting off bacteria of the mouth as baking soda, but it still is proven to be effective. It will also fight off infections in your mouth.
Actually you could, just do not do it too often, as you might damage your teeth and gums. Also, the salt does not taste very nice in your mouth. A good toothpaste (there are plenty in the market to choose from) is recommended for everyday use.
15 years ago Colgate's add explained "Salt , Coal like substance can damage your teeth, so always use colgate tooth powder"now after 15 years it say "Does your Toothpaste have Salt in it?Should we really believe in such Company.

I will give you 3 ways to help you whiten your teeth: 1-Brushing your teeth with fresh orange peel regularly will reduce the accumulated yellow color on your teeth 2-Banana peel is characterized by its benefits in teeth whitening because it contains many necessary minerals such as potassium and magnesium, which are absorbed through the teeth. 3-Salt is one of the basic cleaning agents for teeth, which is used for all ages because it helps to replenish the content of lost minerals in the teeth and helps to revive the white color I HAVE PLACED A LINK IN MY BIO THAT YOU CAN CHECK OUT.
STEP 1. Make sure toothbrush is wet and all the bristles are covered in baking soda. STEP 2. Brush your teeth twice a day.(burning and tingling is perfectly normal). Your teeth should be white in about a week (mix baking soda w/ toothpaste to get rid of salty taste).
I have had gum deasese for a long time, my gums were always red, sore, bleeding, and had bad breath, even though I brushed my teeth with toothpaste, I lost some teeth beacause of gum desease, I had a dentist and more than one, tell me that brushing you teeth with salt is good for them. About 4 or 5 years ago, I decided to start brushing with salt, so I got a small plastic bottle, 8 or 10 oz. bottle, filled it with regular table salt, carried it in my shaving kit and started brushing with salt about 2 or 3 times a week, Voila! within one week, my gums stopped bleeding, hurting, the redness was gone, my bad breath was gone, I also brush my tounge with it, I am sold on Salt toothe paste, I should have done this a lot sooner and saved more of my teeth, I also had some cavities, brushing with salt slowed down their progression, when I got them filled the dentist didn't have to grind out as much of my tooth, I could not believe how quick it really worked. I do a long 7-8 minute brush, and in between my teeth, and swish the salt in and out between my teeth, If you have gum deasease, give it a try, you have nothing to lose and maybe get to keep your teeth!
Sodium bicarbonate is basic salt.
