No, they would have been mates (probility) and firestar may have been mates with spottedleaf instead of sandstorm. if it werent for firestars loylalty sandstorm would have been dustpelts mate.

They will not have any more kits as in the last power of three book they are preparing to become elders. This is ok because most leaders don't become constant breeders like Ferncloud and Dustpelt.

I belive he did, although maybe not as much as Firestar ended up loving her. If you remember, when Sand"paw" (at the time) started to feel fond of Firepaw, Dustpelt started getting moody or grumpy, giving Firepaw sideways looks and glaring at him when she layed down beside Firepaw. "Firepaw dragged him self to his nest, barley able to stand. He colsped in his bed of leaves. His eyes wanderd for a moment. Sandpaw opened one eye and stood quietly. She stumbled carefully and layed beside Firepaw where she closed her eyes. Dustpaw glared at Firepaw, staring sadley at Sandpaw and curled himself into a ball on the cold winter night." Cinderpelt is NOT related to Dustpelt. Cinderpelt is Brackenfurs sister, Dustpelt is Sandstorms brother. I think they are. Cinderpelt is Frostfur's kit. Frostfur's mother is Robinwing Dustpelts mother in Robinwing So Dustpelt is Cinderpelt's Uncle. btw Dustpelt is NOT Sandstorm's brother.
Are Sandstorm and Firestar a couple?
In Into the Wild Firestar comes in as Firepaw and Sandstorm(paw) hates him. She teases him with her friend Dustpelt(paw). When Firestar becomes a warrior Sandstorm hates him more because he becomes a warrior before she did. When she becomes a warrior she shows Firestar(heart) respect and falls in love with him. When Dustpelt still shows no respect for Firestar(heart) Sandstorm turns her back on him. Sandstorm becomes jealous when she remembers that Firestar had a love for the young Starclan medicine cat, Spottedleaf. He still loves Spottedleaf and she loves him back but she doesn't mate with him because she doesn't want to break the warrior code. In Firestar's Quest the two Thunderclan cats mate and have their kits Leafkit and Squirrelkit. Spottedleaf also tells Sandstorm their relationship and Sandstorm doesn't worry anymore.

Since Tawnypelt is Tigerstar's daughter, Firestar was afraid that Tigerstar would try to hurt any cat who mentored his kits. Firestar is in love with Sandstorm and would do anything to protect her. So he chose Brackenfur to keep Sandstorm safe.
Was Squirrelflight related to Ashfur?
Not by blood, no. She is related to him in that Dustpelt mentored her as an apprentice. They are also distantly related in the following line: Sandstorm's mother is Brindleface, and Brindleface's brother is Dustpelt.
