It can, if untreated, be fatal. It is very dangerous. small pox was very dangerous as it killed every one who got it. there was a small pox epidemic that killed thousands. a scientist realised that people that had had cow pox (in the same family of disease) were immune to small pox. He carried out a test on a boy with his parents permission, injected him with a small dose of cow pox and then a few weeks later injected him with small pox wih good results. after vaccinations, Britain is now cleared of small pox. that's what Mr Stanton taught me at HMS. ;p That scientist was Edward Jenner.
Yeah, it does .... apparently some sort of organ failure or something? I'm not sure but I know it kills you :)

He didn't know it would work, that is why he tested it for both safety & effectiveness.Safety, his cowpox pus based inoculation caused fewer and milder symptoms than the existing smallpox pus based inoculation, also it produced no cases of smallpox a common problem of the existing inoculation.Effectiveness, when vaccinated a person was later exposed to smallpox and did not catch it.Note: vaccina is Latin for cow.
The reason we were able to "erradicate" (said that way because we have stores in labs) smallpox was because the human serotype is only able to affect humans. The smallpox vaccine is made from cowpox, which is similar enough to smallpox to provide immunity, but cannot infect us.
Smallpox was caused by either of two virus variants, ''Variola major'' or ''Variola minor.'' There is a link below to an article on smallpox.
Right now, Ebola is. The black death or the plague is caused by a bacteria and can be treated with an antibiotic. Smallpox is also dangerous but can be contained by a vaccine.
Smallpox is still alive, just not dangerous and it is under control. There is no real cure for it.
smallpox is very dangerous and it also armed without any medical help this deadly virus can kill or even causes blindness but the power of science we already have a shot to provent it
If smallpox were to break out anywhere, it has to be reported. It's to dangerous not to be!
The smallpox vaccine comes from cows. Most diseases you a weakened form of the disease. However the smallpox vaccine is brought from cowpox. (closely related to smallpox but not as dangerous). You cannot get this vaccine anymore and if you did it would result in a bad reaction.
Good question. Generally we don't directly study smallpox, because it is a very dangerous virus. Instead we study related viruses such as Vaccinia. However the CDC in Atlanta does maintain smallpox for research, but only under extremely safe conditions.
he realised that milkmaids did not get smallpox. They got a non dangerous form of it called cowpox.
