The 2001 Ford Taurus came with 2 engines that could be equipped. The 3.0L OHV Vulcan which features a single cam oriented in a pushrod configuration, or the 3.0L DOHC Duratec which featured dual overhead cams.

The Vulcan is often found in base models, and the Duratec started to replace the Vulcan in later years.

You can identify if you have the Vulcan if the 8th digit of your VIN code contains a U, 1 or 2.

The Duratec uses VIN code S.

Be aware, some parts stores INCORRECTLY refer to the 3.0L OHV Vulcan as a SOHC (Single Overhead Cam). While this will not change what parts you need to purchase, The Vulcan was offered as an Overhead Valve Pushrod motor configuration ONLY.
