Will Apple's 27-inch Thunderbolt display work with the Mac Pro?
No. The current (as of September 23, 2011) Mac Pro model does not feature Thunderbolt ports; only the newest MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, and iMac models do. However, the 27-inch LCD Cinema Display is still available for sale at Apple Stores and stores that carry Apple products, for the same price as the Thunderbolt display: $999. The LCD Cinema Display requires only a Mini-DisplayPort connection, the immediate predecessor to the Thunderbolt port.

no the display port is an output so that would just connect two outputs together

Apple iMac computers will not play Blu-Ray discs correctly even if you can get them to play with an external drive and some software. The quality will not be as good as a dedicated Blu-Ray player.
