Yes the Church of God does believe that a person can lose their salvation if they turn back to the ways of this world. The Bible says that a man taking hold of the plow if he looks back is not fit. The good news is if we fall we have an advocate with the Father who is Jesus Christ and if we will ask for forgiveness and truly mean it God will forgive us and restore us.

Is the Nazarene church like the Assembly of God church?

No, they are not alike. Assembly of God is a Pentecostal denomination. The Nazarene Church is a breakoff of the Pentecostals, but their beliefs are somewhat different. They do not list themselves as Pentecostals and do not fall under that umbrella. They are a denominational church in their own right, not affiliated with any other church. Some smaller churches have formed from the Nazarene denomination, such as the Wesleyans. Their main belief that differs from other Christian Churchs (Pentecostal) is the belief you can lose your salvation once you are saved. They do not believe in eternal security. They also believe you can reach santification here on earth, not just after you die.. The Pentecostal Church does not teach either of these beliefs, but many Pentecostal Churchs believe in speaking in tongues as a sign you are saved. The Nazarene Church does not believe in this, nor does it encourage the congregation to speak in tongues. Those are the main differences between the two churches. edit by j54gonzalez: I believe you are mistaken about Pentecostal's and eternal security. I was raised Pentecostal and my grandfather is a Pentecostal minister, never have i heard that Pentecostal's believe you can't lose your salvation. If anything it was stressed that you could stray from God and lose your salvation, you can repent for what you have done but none the less you can stray from the "narrow path" if you will. I would like to know where the assumed "breakoff" from the Pentecostal church happened historically. From 1908 until 1915 the official name was "Pentecostal Church of the Nazarene". However, that name was dropped so as not to be confused with the nonbiblical extremes of the pentecostal movement that began with the revival on Azusa Street. Nazarenes are Wesleyan Armenians, who do not believe you can "lose" your salvation like I can lose my carkeys. However, I can become an apostate and after having been delivered from the sin that separates us from God only to return to it. We believe that salvation is based on a relationship with Christ, not a contractual agreement. RMD

How do you achieve salvation through presbyterianism?

Presbyterians believe that Salvation is received through the Grace of God. Although the individual can exercise free will, God first chooses the elect to be saved. In the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) it is generally believed that God chooses everyone for salvation because God's Love and Grace have no limits.

Do the Assemblies of God church and the Church of God believe you can lose salvation?

In our modern world, many 'churches' have titles or names that can be misleading. That said, some called 'Church of God' do believe the gift of salvation that is freely given can be lost by some who will discount it and go back to their worldly ways. These are the ones Scripture refers to as 'having no other cover' once they give up the gift of Christ's blood shed for all. Then there are many called 'church of God' that do not believe this.Hebrews 10:26New King James Version (NKJV) The Just Live by Faith26 For if we sin willfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins,Below is a link for the Assemblies of God for your reading edification:

If you believe that the Son of God, Our Blessed Lord, Jesus Christ, holds the keys to salvation, then you choose the Church that He founded on St. Peter in the first century - the Catholic Church.

What were beliefs about salvation during the middle ages?

The Catholic church was the only religion in the middle ages and it taught that man was born in sin and to reach heaven he needed to do as the church told him. The church was seen as the "middle man" between man and God. If a person was excommunicated by the church he/she would not be saved and that there would be no salvation for them.

What do Church of God believe?

Churches of God (also known as COG) is a worldwide denomination that believes in one God and Jesus Christ as the personal savior. They are nondenominational and believe in the Bible as their only highest authority. The nondenominational churches in Wichita KS believe in personal interpretations of salvation, and that salvation cannot be explained by humanly created rules or laws. The Church of God believes in God, who is the Almighty Ruler of the universe and the only one who should be worshiped. He created heaven and earth, He knows all things and sees all things, neither has He any beginning or end.

Do mormons believe you can purchase salvation for deceased relatives?

No, absolutely not. Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the "Mormon" church) believe that "salvation is free" (Book of Mormon, 2 Nephi 2:4). Salvation cannot be purchased for yourself or for a loved one. Salvation is a free gift of God bestowed on those who have faith in Jesus Christ. Mormons do believe that they can be baptized in honor of their deceased ancestors. They believe that by doing this, their ancestor is given the opportunity to accept or reject Jesus Christ and salvation in the afterlife. Check out the "Related Links" below to learn more about this practice of baptism for the deceased.
