The chance of catching a Pokemon with pokerus is even worse that getting a shiny one. What I did was I went online to different forums and discussion places (Gaia online was where I actually got it, but anyway) and asked someone to trade me a Pokemon with pokerus for a kyogre or something like that, because once you have a Pokemon WITH pokerus, you just have to battle with the Pokemon in your team, and it starts to spread. Look out though, Pokerus goes away pretty fast, so always keep one that's infected in your PC.
What happens if you dont have pokerus?
If your Pokemon does not have PokeRus, nothing is wrong and the game continues to function as it always does. PokeRus is simply a beneficial status condition which only effects a Pokemon's growth for a short period of time (if not contained). If you don't have the virus, your Pokmon develops normally and it is no real loss.

It is not very particular, so you really can trade for any Pokemon. This is probably the best option as the virus is very rare and the chances of contracting it are very low.
