Best Answer

The military still uses rail transport, but the Army doesn't actually own any trains. Civilian railroad companies provide the power units via contract, while the Department of Defense owns the railcars which are used to transport military materiel.

Do toilets on trains flush human waste onto the tracks?

Yes, old carriages like Intercity 125's do this. New trains do not. You can tell because trains that flush onto the track have signs reading "Do not flush whilst at station" In the US, this has been illegal for decades. However, trains were still doing this from the early days until the 1970's.
