When you replace the body control module with a used BCM you will need to know the VATS code for the key. It may be possible to get that code if you have the VIN # from the donor car. A new key then has to be made to match the donor BCM. At a cost of around $30 for the key it may be worth it. Otherwise you will have to buy a new BCM at around $300. Good luck!

This is a fairly common problem on these vehicles. It is usually caused by a bad body control module, or BCM. If you buy a new one it has to be reprogrammed for your car by the dealer.
check and see if the headlights flash and the secuity light comes on and goes off. that is what mine did. had to get the BCM replaced and reprogrammed.
No.No.
Only if you want your windows, gauges, CD player, and any accessories to work :) The BCM controls these and eliminates the need for excessive controllers as they all more or less plug into that.
Reprogrammed, no. The code cleared to turn off a check engine light, yes.
