One form of Bubonic Plague DOES cause skin discoloration- very dark purple that is almost black. Caused by blood coagulating under the skin, fingers, hands, etc. I suppose that "Purple Death" did not sound the same.
No. The " black death " is a euphemism for Bubonic plague and affect all people. The "Black Death" killed 1/3 of the population of Europe in the Middle Ages. It was transmitted to humans by infected fleas, who got it from the blood of rats on whom they were parasites. It was very democratic - it killed anyone who contracted it (mortality rate, while not 100%, was appallingly high if one contracted it). It did not affect people of one color any more or less than any other.
