In January 1941 the Krakow Jews were forced to live in a ghetto walled off from the rest of the city. Later, the inhabitants of the Krakow Ghetto were transported to Belzec, Plaszow and later to Auschwitz, which is only about 30 miles away. Oskar Schindler employed cheap labor from the Krakow Ghetto ... and this has made it particularly well known.
