The flap formed when LASIK surgery is performed is never fully healed. It will get to about 99-99.5% healed, but the flap is still able to be lifted even after 8-10 years. Some people will tell you that it is fully healed after 1 year, and at that point it pretty much is healed, but the flap will never contribute to the structural rigidity of the eye again.

What happens if you squeezed your eyes too hard after lasik?

As long as the eye has had ample time to heal following the surgery, usually nothing happens. There are some eye traumas, though, that can relift the flap that is created in the LASIK surgery. For that reason, there are certain people I recommend not get LASIK surgery b/c of their profession, most notably boxers. There are also freak accidents that may relift the corneal flap as well (like a patient who was hit in the eye with the edge of a 2x4). When this sort of accident occurs, we simply lay the flap back in place and give it time to heal. On the same note, the military used to prohibit LASIK in their pilots because of the fear that the G-force created in high speed planes would dislocate the flap. With the introduction of the Intralase laser, the military not only allows LASIK but performs it routinely on pilots.

What is the difference between Lasik and PRK?

LASIK and PRK are both laser procedures that correct nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism and presbyopia. The main difference between the two is the following: LASIK uses a microtome knife or laser to create a flap followed by use of an Eximer laser to ablate the corneal tissues. PRK, on the other hand, uses a sterile brush or laser to scrape away the surface corneal epithelial cells, followed by use an Excimer laser to ablate and reshape the corneal tissue. Although PRK takes longer to heal and produces more discomfort than LASIK, it is an ideal surgery for patients with thin corneas and large pupils. What are some of the complications to getting lasik surgery?

The most common complication is dry eyes. 36% of people have experienced dry eye after 6 months of LASIK surgery. Other common complications are "subconjunctival hemorrhage" which leaves a red blood spot on your eye. Other common complaints are double vision or seeing halos, foggy vision and or a glare. Another common effect is after surgery the flap that they cut will fall off. This is usually caused by patience not giving their eyes enough time to heal which is why it is advised to sleep more after surgery. The excessive blinking of being awake care iritate the flap and break it off completely.

How is LASEK different from LASIK?

Lasek and Lasik corrective eye surgeries have a few differences. Healing time in Lasik surgery is approximately 2 - 7 days and one is able to drive within a week. Lasek surgery can take a few days longer to heal, and one is unable to drive for a few weeks.

What about your nerve being cut during surgery Does it ever heal?

Yes, a nerve that is cut during surgery will eventually heal.

How is laser eye surgery performed?

LASIK surgery is done by creating a flap of corneal tissue with a blade or laser, exposing the corneal tissue under the flap that needs to be treated, reshaping the cornea by removing tissue with the Eximer laser and laying the flap back in place for the tissues to heal. To determine if someone is a suitable candidate for LASIK surgery, an eye surgeon must be consulted. For other concerns, you may visit http://www.about-eyes.com/ or CataractCoach@twitter.com. What does laser eye surgery fix?

Corrective eye laser surgery can be any excimer laser corneal surgery or refractive surgery that improves vision by correcting errors of refraction(check out Cornea Surgery in the related links). If you want a list of the various corrective eye laser surgery procedures you can refer to the related link (Eye Surgery Manila, Philippines) that I have provided below.

Will a nick in your lower bowel heal after surgery?

Are there any major risks associated with lasik surgery?

When getting Lasik eye surgery there are a few risks that may be involved including, the fact that a doctor could over correct your vision or under correct it, also the results of the procedure are not always permanent and someone may need to wear glasses or contacts again. Lasik might also affect someone that is known to have dry eyes; the symptoms of dry eyes might continue or get work after the Lasik. Through some rare complications with the Lasik procedure your eye may not heal correctly and there could be a low chance of vision loss. Also some other possible effects of Lasik are blurred vision, sensitivity to light, and so on. There are some risks involved with lasik surgery, which could occur in some cases. One of the major risk associated with any eye surgery is eye infection causing irritation, swelling or burning sensation in the eyes. Other risks could be under-correction and over-correction which result in hazy vision. In some cases some minor risks like dryness in the eyes occur. There

What type of laser is used in laser eye surgery?

There are two different types of lasers used in laser eye surgery. The actual vision correction of LASIK which is done under a flap, or PRK which is done on the surface of the eye after removal of the skin of the eye is an excimer laser. This is a short wave ultraviolet laser with a wavelength of 193 nm. It works by short pulses that break carbon carbon bonds on the surface of the eye. Typically this laser removes about 0.3 microns of tissue with each pulse. Therefore to remove the amount of tissue to correct most patients hundreds of pulses in the same spot are needed. Modern excimers use small laser spots of only about 1 mm in diameter and therefore to treat the area of a 6 mm treatment diameter can take thousands of laser spots. Fortunately these lasers run at a rate of from 100 to 400 Hz and can accomplish this in less than a minute. Infrared eye trackers are used to monitor the position of the eye, usually relying on the pupil or iris to track movements and to deliver the treatment in the correct location.Another laser that is also used is the femtosecond laser which can make a corneal flap. This is an infrared wavelength laser which sends very small pulses about a micron in diameter to a specific focal point causing optical breakdown and tissue separation by that mechanism. Here the laser operates at a higher frequency so that up to millions of spots are created to separate the outer cornea from the deeper tissue, creating a flap of superficial tissue which is lifted up to allow the first laser mentioned to do the correction and then the flap is returned to its original position which can heal quickly and with minimal discomfort. This is the primary reason that LASIK is so much more popular than PRK, where in the latter case, a new skin must heal over the treated area which is uncomfortable for a few days and the visual recovery is much slower.
