you can completely by pass the heater core by disconnecting the two 5/8 s hoses that go through the firewall of your vehicle and the engine will cool fine the main problem is that the heater core runs the window defroster and keeps the fog off your windshield. You should only bypass the heater system in an emergency, for example a hose breaks in the middle of nowhere and you need to get to town to replace it.
Also, if the heater core is connected, and your engine overheats, you should turn the heat up all of the way with the fan blowing at it's highest speed. IT helps to dissipate the excess heat. With it disconnected, you would not have this option for cooling the engine in a emergency.
Yes. The coolant carries the engine heat to the heater core. Without coolant the heater core does not get warm.
The presence of the valves usually restrict the coolant flow into the heater core.
no the freon is strictly for making cold when the a/c is being used in the summertime and what makes the heater core works when heat is needed is the coolant
Yes. The heater core provides the heat which blows out your vents. The heater core has engine coolant flowing through it (it is like a mini radiator) which creates the heat which warms the air that comes out your vents. If you have low coolant, there may be no coolant circulating through heater core, thus causing cold air to blow out vents.
coolant on the floor
In Subarus the temp control for the heater does not control the coolant flow, just airflow past the heater core. If you get no heat, there is no coolant in the heater core -- either there is no coolant or it is not circulating.
Heater core may be air bound and have to be bled Heater core may be plugged or restricted Thermostat may not be opening allowing coolant flow to core
If your heater core is LEAKING engine coolant so that your engine coolant level drops too low or the engine coolant is lost completely and causes your engine to overheat then your engine can be damaged beside the mess the leaking coolant makes inside your vehicle ( you might be able to just temporarily bypass the heater core so that no engine coolant is flowing through the heater core )
Low coolant? Thermostat not opening? Control cable not working? Plugged heater core? Heater core "airbound"? Low coolant? Thermostat not opening? Control cable not working? Plugged heater core? Heater core "airbound"?
heater core has a leak replace heater core
The heater is dependent on the coolant flowing through the heater core. If the coolant is low then there will not be any heat.
the heater core, heater core hoses or heater control valve is leaking
