Halo 4 is coming out on November 6, 2012 and so far we don't know if he dies or not. However, in the exclusive demo released at E3, it shows the second level of the campaign, not the first. So at the end of that level, he is seen being attacked by a Promethean Knight. It hits him once, taking all his shields down. As it hits him a second time, the video fades to black.
