He was one of the 7 deacons of the church who provided food to the Greeks.

He was known for his gifts to man kind

Some believe this is why we honor Saint Nick at Christmas since the birth of Christ is viewed as the the ultimate gift from God to man kind as viewed by those who believe in his birth, death and our deliverance from the sins of man at the time of his death on the cross as well as our own.

According to The Bible: This proposal pleased the whole group. They chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit; also Philip, Procorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and Nicolas from Antioch, a convert to Judaism. So nicholas is in the bible, but the in the question his name is wrong spelling.
