What is in artificial life support?
When a patient needs a machine, or a ventilator to breath for them, then that patient is on artificial life support. When a patient does not have the ability to breath on their own, or eat on their own, they will need artificial life support, or they will die.
Can a patient have access to their own records?
Why not? I mean its your body's history and stuff like that so why wouldn't you be able to access your own records?!
Why oral suction is performed on a patient?
To keep the patient's airways clear.If there is something in a patient's mouth, such as blood, and the patient is not fully conscious, or for some other reason not able to swallow, you have to suction them or their airways will get blocked and the patient will die by drowning in their own fluids or by choking.

When does a patient require oxygen therapy?
A patient requires oxygen therapy when the oxygen in their blood is unable to stay elevated on their own. If the patients lip has a bluish tint to the nail beds or lip, or is found with difficulty breathing and shortness of breath it is likely they will be a candidate for oxygen therapy.
Can a patient be transferred to another hospital with power of attorney if the patient doesn't want to?
Yes, the power attorney is a legally binding agreement. If the power attorney thinks that it is in the patient's best interest to be moved to another hospital, then that is usually what happens. The only other reason that would be able to be granted otherwise, is if a patient is able to still make his/her own decisions still, then they can vocalize their feelings.
How can you determine if rescue breathing is effective?
You should be able to see the persons chest rise and fall with each breath you give them along with feeling and hearing the air come back out with each breath. That is where you get "Look, Listen and Feel" for breathing. You are going to see and feel the same thing as if the person was breathing on their own. You are just doing it for them.
Why wean off a ventilator?
A patient is weaned off a ventilator so they are able to breathe on their own again. Weaning is the process of shifting breathing function from a machine to the person breathing on their own.
When is a feeding tube inserted?
A feeding tube is inserted when a patient or person is no longer able to swallow or chew their own food when they need to eat.
What does a patient is Ambulatory with a limp mean?
It means they are able to walk on their own, but with a limp. Non- ambulatory would mean they have to be moved by stretcher, etc.
What aftercare is given after minimally invasive heart surgery?
The patient receives continued cardiac monitoring in the intensive care unit . Once the patient is able to breathe on his/her own, the breathing tube is removed (extubation), if it is not removed immediately post-operatively
Where can one buy a pacemaker?
Pacemakers are bought from medical manufactures by the doctor or hospital where the implantation surgery will take place. A patient would not be able to purchase a pacemaker on his/her own.
