The U. S. Constitution does not require previous experience for a Presidential nominee. The US has elected three Presidents with no experience in political office. However, all three were high-rankling generals during war time and therefore, had experience in making important and difficult decisions as well as experience in dealing with politicians and managing people.

Every experience could be useful for a President but it is not clear how much is actually required. Good people figure out what to do and others are clueless even after years of experience.
