A 2000 Mazda Protege with 1.8 DOHC engine appears to be a "free-running" engine, meaning there is no valve/piston interference in case the timing belt broke. There is enough clearance between the valve and piston, even if the cam stops (i.e. the timing belt breaks) with the valve fully open. Therefore, the car will not be damaged if the timing belt broke.
it could break a valve, but will probably just bend a few.
if the engine was turning when belt broke most likely tagged one valve, replace belt and compression test ot borescope to view inside cylinders for damage.
If the engine runs at all, the timing belt is not "broke."
Maybe the timing belt broke.
Yes every car has a timing belt or chain. The 2003 Cavalier has a timing belt
The 2003 tl has a timing belt.
how to change the timing belt on a 2003 jetta
you need a large socket and a breaker bar to manually turn the cam until the timing mark is placed right
When a timing belt breaks the crankshaft continues to turn but the cams do not, you may have a bent valve or other component of the valve system. When the belt broke any valve that was open stayed open and the moving pistons would have hit them potentially causing all sorts of damage from cam lobes to lifters to the valves themselves.
yes it is, if you broke the timing belt there is about a 90% chance you bent a valve
As far as I know the 2.3 liter DOHC engine in a 2008 Ford Ranger has a timing CHAIN
