Code PO342, Camshaft sensor came up, mechanic says replacing the balve cover gasket will fix this. Does that sound right?
The camshaft position sensor is located on the timing chain cover at the front of the engine.
The camshaft sensor is the same as the crankshaft sensor it is local on the passenger side of the valve cover . And going down to your crankshaft inside the timing belt cover

I Have a ZX2 myself, and I have had the same problem. After replacing the variable camshaft timing sensor grommet, I also replaced the valve cover gasket. You should be able to only change the valve cover gasket and be fine. Matthew D
On the 3.1L & 3.8L engines, the CMP sensor is located on the timing cover, behind the water pump, near the camshaft sprocket.
