Please stop by a bank and ask them for some other $1 coins. All "golden" dollars have smooth edges to make them more identifiable to people who are blind or have limited vision. The coins' smooth edges make it easier to tell them apart from quarters and half dollars when touched.
If you have a 20 dollar gold coin, it is worth a lot, at least $1500. You need to know what year the coin is from.
both
The two sides of a coin are called head and tail.
The only U.S. "Stone Mountain" coin is a 1925 half dollar. Please look at the coin again and post new question.
yes
I'm not sure what you mean by smooth raised edges, but I would suggest you take it to a coin dealer and have it appraised.
All US coins dated 2000 have the word LIBERTY on them. Which one?
August 19, 2009 The raised edges on your coin are nothing unusual and does not increase the value of the coin. In circulated condition the 1904 Liberty Head Nickel is valued from $4 to $40 depending upon the actual condition of the coin.
Since the Geat Recoinage law of 1816 which saw the reintroduction of the gold Sovereign to the currency in 1817, and the earlier development of mechanised coin presses, the Sovereign has had milled edges. The Sovereign had earlier been discontinued in 1604, when it was a hammered coin and had smooth edges. More recently, the 1937 Sovereign had a plain edge. Milled edges on a coin make it that little bit more difficult to counterfeit.
The coin is a Sacagawea dollar not a liberty dollar and it's only worth a dollar.
The coin is called a SACAGAWEA dollar and has no gold in it. If you know it's a 2000 coin, why don't you think it has no date?
if it's not a Proof coin value is one dollar.
The ridges on the edges of coins are called "reeds". Many years ago when quarters, dimes, and half dollars had silver in them, people would shave the edges, sell the silver, and still use the shaved coin for the face value of the coin. The mint added reeds so it could easily be determined if the coin was shaved or not.
Penny, nickel, susan b. The SBA. dollar has reeds, the 2000-2006 Sacagawea dollar has no reeds but in 2007 the date and mintmark was moved to the edge of the coin. Now only the penny and nickel have plain edge's.
There is no such thing as a Liberty dollar coin minted in 2000. There is however the Sacajawea dollar which was minted in brass, and unless in proof condition it is only worth $1.
Your coin is 45 years old and simply showing the effects of wear and tear. The reeding on the edges is small and wears off faster than the rest of the coin's design.
Not gold, it's made from brass. Just spend it.
