Watching television absolutely does not promote obesity. All too often, television is blamed for all kinds of fitness problems. That is a long way from the truth although there is an accepted link between television viewing and obesity.

Obesity is caused in many cases by over eating and lack of exercise. Watching television to excess has a tendency to leave insufficient time for activities that burn calories. This link should not be used to blame television for people being over-weight or obese although encouraging people to watch less television and exercise more would certainly contribute to lower weight and greater fitness levels.

How many people die due to watching tv?

I don't think people have directly died due to watching TV, but one could postulate that TV has caused a large amount of indirect deaths. Overuse of TV helps to promote an immobile lifestyle, which leads to more obesity and less exercising. This in turn can lead to things like diabetes, heart disease, etc... which all can result in death.

How does watching tv affect childrens eating habits?

Eating while watching can lead to overweight followed by obesity. Our minds are occupied on what we are watching and the brain is slow to send the message of the feeling of "fullness" because it is busy focusing on the television. Children growing up watching while they have their meals tend to keep this habit and have a higher chance of being overweight as an adult. DEBATING_GIRL: I am continuing from what the above person said. When kids watch TV they see many advertisements. Usually these advertisements promote an unhealthy food or drink. This makes children THINK they're hungry but they reaaly aren't. So then they go look around for junk food or they might nag their parents to buy them what they saw.

Which statistic supports the fact that excessive television watching is linked to obesity?

Sky Sports audience figures many support that supposition, but it's not a proven fact - more of an opinion involving guesswork.

What are possible mental implications of watching too much TV?

The possible mental implications of watching too much TV depends on if it's a child or an adult. Children who watch too much t.v. may become isolated from their peers and not get the social interaction they need to succeed in life. They may also become influenced by what they see on TV and engage in that behavior. Other implications include obesity. Adults who watch too much TV may also become isolated from their peers and just disappear from life. They will lose the ability to interact with their peers and live a desolate life. Obesity may also be an implication of watching too much TV for adults as well.
