But if someone with the virus is bitten by a mosquito and that mosquito bites another person it can be spread that way. It is a virus of mosquitoes not humans. Humans are just infected accidently. West Nile virus (WNV) is a mosquito-borne zoonotic arbovirus belonging to the genus Flavivirus in the family Flaviviridae.
