2. A dog will knock himself silly trying to adore you. A cat will knock himself silly running through the house and hitting his head on walls and furniture, all in the name of fun.
3. Dogs are so affectionate they will wag their whole body at the mere sight of you. Cats show their affection by allowing you to scratch them behind the ears but only if you do it the right way, and don't even THINK of touching their paws.
4. Cats are lap animals, but only if the lap has been sufficiently "fluffed" with really sharp claws. Great Danes are not lap animals, but they think they are.
5. If you have three cats, all of them will ignore you, until you try to pet one of them, then all three will demand your undivided attention. If you have one dog he will sound like three when greeting you as you come home from work, especially if you are tired and have a splitting headache.
6. Cats will beg to be fed and then ignore the bowl of food until it's dry and hard, then look at you like you're a sadist. Dogs will eat cat food that is dry, hard, and stale, and gaze at you like you're God. Both types of pets will ignore cheap food in favor of the most expensive brand there is.
7. Dogs will scare away intruders in the dark of night. Cats will jump, poof up their fur, hiss loudly, growl, then run and hide if the doorbell rings in broad daylight. They will also attempt to kill you if you clip their toenails.
8. Cats will tolerate smooching on their faces to differing degrees. A dog will smooch you all over your face, and won't stop until you tie a knot in his tongue. By the same token, a dog will lick his various parts for three hours, while a cat gives it a whisper and a promise.
9. The smaller the dog, the bigger the 'tude. Cats all think they are lions and tigers, so the attitude is the same for all.
10. If you wake up a dog, he's happy to see you. A cat will pretend to continue to sleep while you maul him with affection. Fortunately a cat's purr-er operates independently of his brain. He will still pretend to sleep while you pet him, but will purr at the same time. Sometimes an awake cat will also growl and purr simultaneously. It all depends on how talented they are. They do this to confuse you.

Dogs are from the family Canidae, whereas cats are in the Felidae family. They are both carnivores, but hunt in different ways. Most dogs live in packs, but most cat species live solitary lives.
